The highly anticipated BBC series Dope Girls, starring Umi Myers as Billie Cassidy, airs tonight on BBC1.
Written by Alex Warren and award-winning playwright Polly Stenham, the 6-part drama explores the women behind Soho’s expanding illicit underground club scene in 1918 at the end of WW1.
The London Standard ***** ‘Nicholson sells it utterly, as does Umi Myers, who plays Billie, a nightclub dancer who gets caught up in the increasing chaos.’
Digital Spy ***** ‘Umi Myers’ Billie is equally compelling. She’s beguiling and has a lofty, flighty air about her, giving the impression of someone whose cares don’t stick for too long. But Myers injects a heaviness into Billie’s expressive eyes that speaks of pain – and if you double-take, you’ll catch the sadness in her smile.’
Dope Girls is on BBC One every Saturday at 9.15pm and available on BBC iPlayer
